Current Exhibition Lost City and Other Stories: Objects and Diagrams by Michael Lee 小城大事: 李鴻輝的物件與圖表 23rd July - 14th Sept, 2010 Hanart Square, 2/F Mai On Industrial Building, 17-21 Kung Yip Street, (off Tai Lin Pai Road, Kwai, Hing) Kwai Chung. | | | In his first solo exhibition in Hong Kong, artist Michael Lee focuses on the relations between city and the imagination, history and story, through architectural model, blueprint, book and video.
At Hanart Square in Kwai Chung are four works that ponder over lost buildings or lost building parts: National Columbarium of Singapore, an installation of 45 scaled models of lost Singapore monuments that referred to the city-state by name; Second-Hand City, a set of architectural blueprints on the trials and triumphs of buildings, civic structures and cities, and Monuments to Everything Else, a series of book sculptures that meditate on architectural components beyond their structural function. Also on show here is Hinterlands, the companion video of The Consolations of Museology, an installation of hypothetical museums realised as book sculptures that examine common human weaknesses.
At Hanart TZ Gallery in Central is The World Unexposition, a growing set of paper models of unbuilt buildings the world over.
If buildings can tell stories, what might they say?
Hanart Square
