RoundSky《寰天》

RoundSky is a look at contemplative images inspired both by painting and artifacts from the world’s greatest religions and from my own imagination. The work is explorative and indexical in nature. It poses questions and posits a few possible answers. The process of painting for me is a personal way of understanding the world. In my random meanderings, I find my images I connect to. These are played out on my canvases morphing in various ways to create presence. The images tend to want to be vignettes on a tableau solidifying in its final state.

The two largest paintings, Eastern and Western traditions are experimental in nature. They look at how the center and circle is used within each of the major religious traditions and are painted large scale to correspond to the standing viewer so that he or she may perhaps find a recalibrating experience within his own viewing process. Branches of Beliefs, Eastern and Western, traces the numerous sects, denominations and groups to see if one branch might be the right one.

The Da Wang Series attempts to work out ways to connect to the universe by looking back into our histories for guidance and into the future for light.
